It’s A Team Up For The Ages In The ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 3 Trailer
by Erik Amaya
Cobra Kai vows to kick off 2021 like a badass.
In a new trailer for the series, everyone is still reeling from the violent high school brawl between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-do dojos. Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) awakes from his coma, but is still in pretty bad shape. Johnny (William Zabka) has apparently ceded control of the dojo to John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Daniel (Ralph Macchio) finally wonders if he’s the bad guy. The soul of the Valley is at stake, and the fate of every student and sensei hangs in the balance. So, perhaps, it is finally time for Johnny and Daniel to team up.
And yes, that sure looked like Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko and Yuji Okumoto as Chozen at the end there. Beyond teaming up, Johnny and Daniel have plenty of soul searching to do. Daniel will apparently head to Okinawa to do some of his while Johnny dedicates himself to helping Miguel recover. Meanwhile, Johnny’s son Robby (Tanner Buchanan) will have to grow up fast in lock-up.
Based on The Karate Kid film series, Cobra Kai did the impossible — make a sequel series set 30 years later work. By honoring the films, repositioning Daniel and Johnny in more complicated light, and introducing new generation of Karate Kids, it became the single success story from YouTube short-lived attempt at scripted content. Now, it’s at Netflix, where it is supported (for the moment) and finally capturing the attention of viewers.
Of course, we still wait for the arrival of The Karate Kid Part III‘s Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), the actual owner of the Cobra Kai copyrights and other fans wonder when Ali (Elizabeth Shue) will finally make contact. But in the meantime, we look forward to Johnny and Daniel becoming allies and, hopefully, stopping Kreese for good.
Cobra Kai returns this January on Netflix.
