‘Riverdale’ Season 5 Trailer Sets Up The End Of High School

by Erik Amaya

Riverdale‘s days as a high school show are coming to an end. And this stylish trailer for the upcoming fifth season does everything in its power to set up the conclusion of the gang’s school days short of revealing the identity of the mysterious voyeur.

As seen here, everything is on the line with someone targeting Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), and the rest with stylized Dan DeCarlo-esque masks, scenes of violence, and a recreation of Archie’s first encounter with the Black Hood. Meanwhile, it seems Archie and Betty will have hard time denying their attraction for one another; potential shattering the friendships of the main four.

One can imagine graduation day will be a harrowing experience.

Of course, the trailer only teases the first four episodes, which will wrap up the Season 4 storylines the series could not complete before the COVID-19 shutdown last spring. Following graduation, the program will jump past the gang’s college years to see them regroup in the Town with Pep for some unspecified reason. Perhaps it has something to do with the hanging in the trailer or the image Betty cannot forget?

We’ll be honest, we lost touch with Riverdale early last season. Plenty of the zing it had in its first season went missing and its attempts to be provocative fell flat. Nevertheless, we’ll be curious to see where things go after the time jump and what it could mean for the future. Will it finally be time to pivot to an Afterlife with Archie stance?

Riverdale returns January 20th on The CW.
