Chris Pine To Roll For A Nat 20 In ‘Dungeons & Dragons’

by Erik Amaya

It’s Chris Pine‘s time to roll for initiative.

Variety reports the Star Trek and Wonder Woman star is in talks to headline Paramount’s and eOne’s new adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons. The film is based on the table top role playing game devised by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson — and currently published by Hasbro subsidiary Wizards of the Coast — which empowers players to become any combination of mythical fantasy race, character class, and moral alignment. With a character “rolled,” they set out to defeat powerful enemies, find loot where they can get it, and typically frustrate the Game Master; a friend who takes on the role of playing the rest of the fantasy realm, devises story, and attempts to foil the players’ plans.

Game Night‘s Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are set to direct the film and re-write a script from Michael Gilion. As details are scarce, it is unclear if it will be set in one of the game’s mythical realms, take inspiration from the hundreds of D&D novels or, in a move that would not surprise us from Goldstein and Daley, feature Pine as an actual player of D&D. If that is the case, we hope the rest of his group is filled with well-known real-life players like Joe Manganiello, Deborah Ann Woll, and Vin Diesel.

Dungeons & Dragons is set for release. on May 27, 2022
