Batman: Soul of the Dragon is finally available on digital formats today. And in celebration, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has made available one last clip. This time, Lady Shiva (Kelly Hu) and Richard Dragon (Mark Dacascos) face off against ninjas who appear to be aligned with the Kobra Cult. At least, we think that’s the Kobra leader surrounded by ninjas in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot.
The film sees Batman (David Giuntoli), Dragon, Lady Shiva, and Ben Turner (Michael Jai White) teaming up to face off against the Kobra Cult in story clearly inspired by Enter the Dragon and any number of grindhouse kung-fu movies from that era. As you can see in the above clip, Richard Dragon’s clothing is undoubtedly inspired by costumes worn by Bruce Lee. Additional voices include Josh Keaton, Grey Griffin, Chris Cox, Erica Luttrell, Robin Atkin Downes, Patrick Seitz, Jamie Chung and Eric Bauza.
Sam Liu directs from a script by Jeremy Adams which tips its hat to the dearly departed Denny O’Neil, who passed away last year and co-created Dragon, Turner, Shiva, and O-Sensei. As we’ve said before, this mix of O’Neil’s martial arts creations is so inspired, we feel like a live action CW or HBO Max series should follow it up. Like White’s Ben Turner, Hu and Dacascos would make great live action versions of Lady Shiva and Richard Dragon. Also, we’d love to see a proper version of the latter character to restore the name following Arrow‘s decision to use the New 52 Ricardo Diaz character.
Batman: Soul of the Dragon is available on digital today and hits disc formats on January 26th.
