Brutal Action Never Seen Before: ‘The Last Warrior’ Reviewed

by Tito W. James

In The Last Warrior two men from rival clans must work together to root out an insidious enemy. Do not let the generic title and even more generic trailer fool you, this film is amazing!

The Last Warrior stands out because of its superb costume design and cinematography. The film depicts a stylized version of ancient Russia that’s completely unique from other medieval European fantasy tales. The director’s attention to composition and framing makes the natural environments take on a mythological quality.

The fights within the movie are brutal and the steady-camera makes you feel every blow and slash. I’ve never seen this type of free-flow choreography in a period-piece film before. I was genuinely shocked at how bloody the conflicts became. There are scenes in The Last Warrior worthy of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal.

The Last Warrior is a much-watch for action fans and lovers of grimdark period pieces. The film is now streaming on Tubi.
