‘Andor’ Will Not Feature K-2SO In Its First Season

by Erik Amaya

Despite early press indicating Rogue One: A Star Wars Story droid K-2SO would be featured in the upcoming Andor series, it seems his time in the Disney+ spotlight will have to wait.

The droid’s performer, Alan Tudyk, told Collider he is not part of the first season. “I’m going to be in the show,” he explained. “It’s just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn’t involve K-2SO until later on.” Early messaging from Lucasfilm, which included references to K-2SO at the last Star Wars Celebration in 2019 and Tudyk appearing on stage with star Diego Luna at D23 Expo later that year, highlighted his involvement. But since that time, screenwriter Tony Gilroy took control of the series from initial executive producer Stephen Schiff.

As with Gilroy’s work on Rogue One, it is clear the series has been reshaped to his vision and the initial two-hander of Cassian Andor (Luna) and K-2S0 will have to wait. On the plus side, it appears Lucasfilm and Disney+ are envisioning Andor as more than a limited series a la Obi-Wan Kenobi or the currently running WandaVision.

The series will also feature Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly reprising her Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One role of Mon Mothma. It is scheduled for a 2022 debut.
