Livestreaming Super Heroes In ‘Super Best Friend’ On Kickstarter
by James Ferguson
What if all of a super heroes adventures were livestreamed online? It would certainly provide a different perspective on the capes and tights crowd. That’s the basic idea behind Super Best Friend, a new comic from writer Jason Inman, artist George Kambadais, and letterer Taylor Esposito, currently on Kickstarter.
Super Best Friend focuses on Mattie Moore, the best friend of the world’s greatest super hero, Captain Terrific. All of the the Captain’s acts of heroism are captured and shared on a video channel. This fun changes when Mattie mistakenly revealing Captain Terrific’s secret identity to the entire world. Now Mattie has to restore his friend’s secret identity through any means necessary.
“Super Best Friend originally came to me when I hosted DC All Access (DC Comics official YouTube show),” said Inman. “If superheroes existed in the actual world, fans would post videos about them all the time, and that could lead to a lot of sticky situations. What if one of these online fan channels posted something they shouldn’t? I wanted to explore the modern superhero fandom through the lens of a superhero sidekick and super fan, Mattie Moore — the titular Super Best Friend.”
Rewards for the Kickstarter campaign include digital and physical copies of the book itself, as well as Inman’s previous comics, Jupiter Jet and Jupiter Jet and the Forgotten Radio, copies of Inman’s script, Skype calls, variant covers by Travis Mercer and Sarah Leaver, and more.
Inman added: “Captain Terrific is a superhero I created back in 2006. It wasn’t until 2018 when I started writing and convinced George to draw the adventure of Mattie and Captain Terrific. So as you can see, Super Best Friend has been a book long in the making! I hope everyone enjoys my love letter to the Silver Age of comics and superheroes.”
The Kickstarter campaign just launched yesterday and has already surpassed its funding goal. It runs through February 18th, 2021.
