Peter Dinklage will soon lend his voice his voice to a cartoon bear.
Variety reports the Game of Thrones actor will produce an animated film adaptation of Ryan Andrews‘ graphic novel, This Was Our Pact. According to the book’s publisher, Macmillan, the story centers on Ben, a young boy who enjoys the local Autumnal Equinox festival and its legend, which states the paper lanterns they float down the river become stars in the Milk Way galaxy. Determined to learn if the legend is real, he and some classmates vow to follow the river and make a pact with two simple rules: No one turns for home. No one looks back.
Soon, only Ben and Nathaniel, the one kid who just doesn’t seem to fit in, remain in the pact. And, somewhere along the way, the meet a talking bear.
In addition to producing the film, Dinklage will voice the bear. Wolfwalkers‘ Will Collins will adapt Andrews’ graphic novel. The project will be a collaboration between Dinklage’s production company, Estuary Films, and Duncan Studio.
The project is the latest in a growing trend of animated films taking inspiration from children’s graphic novels published by the traditional print media publishers. Indeed, a robust market seems exist outside the comic book direct market for this sort of material. So, it should probably be no surprise that studios are now looking to these graphic novels for stories to adapt.
As This Was Our Pact is an animated feature, it is not yet scheduled for release.
