Indira Varma Joins ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Disney+ Series

Indiria Varma is adding Star Wars to her geek resume.

Deadline reports the actor will appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+. Of course, as with most casting news for the streaming service, her role is unknown. If Asajj Ventress was still alive at the time of the series is said to take place, we’d suggest that. But, as it happens, the series will be set after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith with Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) settling into his life as a hermit called “Ben” on Tatooine’s Dune Sea.

Or maybe it won’t? The series will also feature Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, which came as quite a surprise when Disney announced his participation during December’s Investor Day presentation. Although the timeline would presumably put the actor in the suit, it may also see him playing some for of Anakin either in the past, a Jedi vision, or something only Deborah Chow, who developed the series, could dream up. If Obi-Wan does revisit his past, it means Varma could play Ventress or, perhaps, the also deceased Mandalorian Duchess Satine Kryze. Then again, it is more likely she will play one of the program’s new characters. There as to be a few of them, right?

At the very least, Obi-Wan will encounter some adventure and a few Imperial entanglements.

Varma is know for prestige dramas like Rome, but also appears in various geek-leaning programs like Game of Thrones and Torchwood. Joining Star Wars is definitely the completion of an XBox style achievement and as she always brings something special to her roles — including GoT‘s underused Ellaria Sand, we’re happy to see her join.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will likely begin production in the Spring and arrive on Disney+ in 2022.
