Keanu Reeves To Lead ‘BRZRKR’ Film And Anime Projects At Netflix
by Erik Amaya
This was definitely inevitable.
Deadline reports Keanu Reeves will star in a feature film and anime series adaptation of his comic book, BRZRKR, for Netflix. He will lead both projects as B, a “half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence … even at the sacrifice of his sanity” who cuts an 80,000 year path of blood across history. In modern times, he ends up doing work for the US government while trying to find a way to end his life.
The comic book, co-written by Reeves and Matt Kindt with art by Ron Garney with colors by Bill Crabtree and letters by Clem Robins, was a quick success for Boom! Studios when the first issue debuted earlier this month. Our own James Ferguson gave it an 6/10, saying it was “Wolverine mixed with Vandal Savage with a John Wick vibe” and “a gruesome, action-packed ride that gets more intense with each turn of the page.”
The film and anime will continue to expand B’s world. Reeves will produce with Stephen Hamel and Boom’s Ross Richie and Stephen Christy. Boom’s Adam Yoelin will also serve as an executive producer.
As with all newly-announced projects, it is unclear how quickly either the film or anime will arrive on Netflix. Reeves keeps a busy schedule, which could mean a surprisingly quick turnaround or a slow development process.
