This ‘Batwoman’ Promo Teases Black Mask And A Final Accounting For Angelique

by Erik Amaya

So, it seems, Angelique (Bevin Bru) finally did something right for a change with the plant she gave Ryan (Javicia Leslie). But will it be enough for her to get out of hot water when she begins working for Black Mask? At least, we think that’s who she’s driving for in this preview of next week’s show. Also, note that Mary (Nicole Kang) is willing to give Angelique a running start for her good deed, but will we?

Yeah, we’re not going to lie — Angelique just misses the mark in terms of character. Despite their history together, we’re just baffled why Ryan would give her any consideration or affection at this point. But, we suppose, the heart wants what the heart wants and she’ll always be Ryan’s blind spot.

Hopefully Kate (the newly announced Wallis Day) won’t be as afflicted when the team finds her. Does this mean Black Mask set up Safiyah (Shivaani Ghai) in the hope it would lead to the destruction of the Desert Rose crop? That’s some long game thinking on Roman Sionis’s part. But maybe he has nothing to do with Kate losing her face either.

All that said, we really enjoyed last night’s episode. It was equal parts silly, funny, and thrilling. The overwrought emotions of Alice (Rachel Skarsten) and Safiyah being the standout. We also enjoyed the great collision between the Coryana melodrama and the (slightly) more grounded feel of Gotham. Also, anytime Jacob (Dougray Scott) can be seen as useless is alright by us. Then again, will he take to heart the criticisms of the Crows and do something about it?

Probably not. He has taken Roy Harper’s place as the most useless man in the Arrowverse, after all.

Batwoman airs Sundays on the CW.
