‘Mortal Kombat’ And Classic Films Dominate HBO Max Picks For April

by Erik Amaya

Let’s face it, HBO Max in April is all about Mortal Kombat. Whether you love the old arcade games, have fond memories of the old movie’s title theme, or know nothing about it, a big budget attempt to convert the game to film is something worth taking a look at; especially as it’s part of HBO Max’s hybrid release strategy for new theatrical films and comes at no additional cost.

We’ll admit we only really know about the series via cultural osmosis and some comically terrible afternoons with the first game. Nevertheless, we are curious to see it.

More interesting to us is the selection of classic films which includes offerings like Dirty Harry, the classic melodrama Now, Voyager, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. The end of the month will also see a new round of classic Looney Tunes shorts, which is always welcome. And because we love to highlight cheesy movies, both Missing in Action pictures will be available April 1st.

But these are the things that caught our eye. Take a look at the full list of everything coming to HBO Max to find your own must-watch picks. Also, take a close look at the titles leaving the service as surprising titles like The Neverending Story and the original Johnny Quest will be moving on to other streaming pastures.
