It really was only a matter of time before Bart Allen — aka Impulse — joined Team Flash.
EW reports Jordan Fisher will join the cast of The Flash in the iconic role. Although, in an interesting twist, Bart will be Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris’s (Candice Patton) son. The character, introduced in 1994 and created by Mark Waid and Mike Wieringo, was the son of Don Allen — Barry’s son in the 30th Century. That far-off era saw a resurgence of speedsters thanks to both Iris and Barry relocating there in the days before the Crisis on Infinite Earths. In the 1990s, Waid used that aspect of Flash history to introduce both Bart and his cousin, Jeni Ognatz, who joined the Legion of Superheroes as XS. That character is the loose inspiration for the time-lost Flash TV series character Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy).
According to the character description, Bart will be the fastest teen on the planet, but “due to Bart’s penchant for wildly impulsive behavior, stunned parents Barry and Iris will have their hands full trying to teach their new son patience. But it’s a task they’ll have to accomplish, in order for their family to work together and stop Team Flash’s biggest threat yet!” So at least the most important aspect of Bart’s character will survive the transition to television. Although, you have to wonder how frustrating it will get as Bart’s whole deal, especially in his early adventures, is being annoyingly impulsive.
The character will debut in The Flash‘s 150th episode.
