by Olly MacNamee
First announced at the Annual ComicsPRO Conference last month, Todd McFarlane has now released more information for the beginning of his new “world-building” universe. Coming in June, Spawn’s Universe #1, written by McFarlane this inaugural book that will be the starting point to build a bigger multi-character, interconnected comic book universe based around his top-selling monthly Spawn comic.
Featuring four different stories by four separate artists, Spawn’s Universe #1 will feature Spawns past and present with a Spawn story with art by Jim Cheung, a Gunslinger Spawn strip illustrated by Brett Booth, a Medieval Spawn tale drawn by Stephen Segovia and a fourth chapter featuring She-Spawn.
The debut issue will come with four variant covers by J. Scott Campbell, each featuring a different Spawn character from the list. With more covers and incentives to be announced later.
Spawn’s Universe #1, a 52-page, one-shot issue, will launch on Wednesday, June 30th with a retail price of only $5.99. And given the recent hike in comic book prices, this could prove the best bang for your buck all year.
