‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean’ Announced At Special Event

by Anna Lindwasser

During JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure the Animation Special Event that took place in Japan on April 4th, the program’s fifth season, Stone Ocean, was announced. It will star the first female protagonist in the franchise, Jolyne Cujoh. She is the daughter of daughter of Stardust Crusaders protagonist Jotaro Kujo. Set ten years after Golden Wind, the season follows Jolyne into prison after she’s framed for murder. The original manga arc ran from 1999 to 2003 and is comprised of 17 volumes.

Though Stone Ocean is currently in production and there is no set air date, the event provided some details worth getting excited about. These included a trailer, a key visual, and a reveal of the main character’s VA.

Ai Fairouz, a relatively new voice actor who is best known for her role as Hibiki Sakura from How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? will be playing Jolyne. This is an especially big role for her because the JoJo series was her inspiration for getting into voice acting in the first place.

Her comments, which were originally posted on the official JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure twitter and translated by Crunchyroll, provide more detail:

“I cannot live without JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series and it is also what aspired me to take voice acting as a profession.

So when I heard that I was going to be able to participate in the series, I was lost for words and surprised that “Even a Stand would be blown to the moon”.

I cried so much as it was literally the moment my dream came true, which I have chased over for 12 years.

I love and admire Jolyne as a character and her beautiful, strong nature gave me strength especially during my student years, so I am grateful for the opportunity to voice Jolyne.”

So far, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has been handled by David Production and has streamed on Crunchyroll. Whether or not this will continue has not been confirmed.
