Monkey Magic! The Fabled Monkey Prince Makes His DCU Debut In ‘DC Festival Of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration’

by Olly MacNamee

The previously announced DC Comics’ one-shot, DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration, has revealed more about the stories Thor and the Asgardian gods and Wonder Woman has her Greek gods too. And now DC Comics have stepped into the myths, legends and fairy tales of China with the introduction of the Monkey Prince, as reimagined by Gene Luen Yang (Superman Smashes the Klan) and Bernard Chang.

Based on the 16th century writings that make up the bulk of the original Monkey King’s adventures – Journey to the West – Yang and Chang’s new 12-page story, ‘The Monkey Prince Hates Superheroes,’  will show the Monkey Prince battling and teaming up with Shazam to defeat both the evil Dr. Sivana and a Chinese deer demon spirit!

To further celebrate this new super hero, the anthology will receive a special Monkey Prince 1:25 variant cover by Bernard Chang (check local comic book stores for availability).

And here’s how those of us of a certain age here in the UK fondly remember this cheeky chappie. A them tune I immediately remembered the moment I read this piece of news:
