Kara’s Phantom Zone Struggle Continues In A Preview Of Next Week’s ‘Supergirl’

by Erik Amaya

In the following preview for next week’s Supergirl, Kara (Melissa Benoist) and her Phantom Zone team may have found a way back to conventional reality. Meanwhile, the rest of the Superfriends face the continuing threat of the phantom unleashed on Earth-Prime. Will these stories resolve happily next week or will each group discover the route to a reunion is fraught with more peril?

After the emotional ringer everyone went through this week, we hope there is something more positive to explore soon. While it is good idea to use Kara’s exile as a chance to explore grief, it makes the show difficult to watch at times. This is a testament, though, to the actors who make the characters emotions feel so real. Even Brainy’s (Jesse Rath) breakdown was honest in that cringey embarrassment which comes after rage. It’s just a good thing Lena (Katie McGrath) was there to help him process it. Also, we’re glad she finally admitted her habit of compartmentalizing feelings was a bad approach. We imagine this is why she was able to walk away from Luthorcorp, which felt like a victory no matter what Lex (Jon Cryer) has planned. Now, we just need more moments like that to balance out the show’s dive into sadness.

Supergirl airs Tuesdays on The CW.
