Z2 Comics Teams Up With Indonesian Superstar Agnez For ‘Don’t Wake Up’

by Richard Bruton

The Z2 music graphic novel machine keeps on rocking and rolling with a new partnership with Indonesian superstar Agnez Mo.

After recent announcements of books from Blondie, Teddy Swims, Anthrax, Jimmy Eat World, and many more, they’ve now just announced that they’re partnering with Indonesian superstar singer and actress Agnez Mo for an original graphic novel, Don’t Wake Up.

The graphic novel is inspired by Agnez Mo‘s hit music video Long As I Get Paid with a tale of ‘an atypical avenging angel’. It’s been adapted from Mo’s work by writer Karla Pacheco and artists Peter K. Nguyen and Andres Labrada. There’s also an exclusive limited deluxe version that will include prints by artists N. Steven Harris, John McGuinness, Gabe Sapienza, and Peter V. Nguyen.

“I’ve always enjoyed storytelling, whether through my songs when I write them or through my music videos when I direct. But now, I’m extremely excited to jump into this new realm of graphic novels.
It’s been incredibly fun to formulate this fantasy tale that I initially created for my song ‘Long As I Get Paid,’ which has since come to life as a real comic character. I’m really looking forward to sharing this with my fans as I’m super proud of this first issue and have loved working with this team to help me carry out my vision.”

Z2 are describing Don’t Wake Up as “Catwoman meets The Sandman, featuring that avenging angel walking between the dreamscape and reality, existing outside the forces of good and evil. And this avenging angel’s gaze now falls on an unsuspecting artifacts dealer with “a nasty pastime and a willful insistence on his own virtue.”

If you didn’t already know, Agnez Mo is the most awarded artist in Indonesia, with an incredible following that includes 24 million Instagram followers and 18 million Twitter followers. She’s nominated for Fan Army at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards and has already won in 2020 for Social Star. Her collaborations include Timbaland, French Montana, and T.I. and she’s most recently released her new single, ‘F Yo Love Song’, in advance of a full project coming later this year.

You can get the graphic novel from comics shops and bookstores everywhere this fall, with all editions, including the exclusive deluxe hardcover available to preorder directly from Z2 now!
