Pilou Asbaek To Join ‘Aquaman’ Sequel

by Erik Amaya

Former Euron Greyjoy Pilou Asbæk is headed back to the sea.

Deadline reports the Game of Thrones actor is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Aquaman sequel. It is unclear who he will play as the plot of the film, written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, is unknown. What is known: director James Wan and stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Patrick Wilson are returning as Arthur, Mera, and Orm, respectively. Yayha Abdul-Mateen II is also presumably returning as Black Manta, but it remains to be seen if he will move into lead antagonist position or continue to be a secondary obstacle to Arthur’s goals.

Considering Asbæk’s history as the grubby Euron on Game of Thrones, there is the temptation to assume he will also be a villainous character, but it is also possible he will turn out to surprise everyone as a take on, say, Garth — the ever put-upon Aqualad — or some other character allied with Arthur. In fact, now would be a good time for him to take a more heroic part as Euron casts an oddly large shadow.

Aquaman 2 is set for release on December 16th, 2022
