‘Invincible’ Renewed For Two Additional Seasons At Amazon

by Erik Amaya

Fans of Amazon’s animated adaptation of Invincible rejoice! The program has been renewed for Seasons 2 & 3, according to Deadline.

“I’m extremely thankful to Amazon for the support and dedication they’ve put behind Invincible,” comic book co-creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman said in a statement. “The comic book is truly a love letter to a genre that Cory [Walker] and I grew up reading and loving, and it’s been a gratifying journey to watch our characters come to life again through the animated series. We’re beyond excited to continue this story for at least two more seasons.”

The program stars Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson, a high-school kid who finally gets the superpowers his alien father (J.K. Simmons) promised him. Adopting the superhero identity “Invincible,” Mark soon discovers the limits of that persona and the issues involved with trying to have a life while being a hero. Meanwhile, the world’s premiere superhero league has been murdered and someone close to Mark looks good for the crime. Sandra Oh, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Seth Rogen, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Zachary Quinto, Mahershala Ali, Melise, Kevin Michael Richardson, Grey Griffin, Khary Payton, and other voice acting greats lend their talents to the series.

And it’s proved to be quite exciting for fans of the comics — as we’ve discussed during its first season — and new fans alike. Although it always seemed likely the show would continue as it is more economical to produce animation in large chunks, we’re glad to finally get confirmation.

Invincible streams its first season finale tomorrow.
