The Team Risks It All For One Last Rescue Attempt On The ‘Supergirl’ Mid-Season Finale

by Erik Amaya

Next week is Supergirl‘s mid-season finale and it looks like the Superfriends will risk it all for one last attempt to save Kara (Melissa Benoist) from the Phantom Zone. But with the Prime Phantom seemingly recovering his strength, will friends be lost in this last-ditch effort? And will Kara be able to save her father (Jason Behr)?

While it will be nice to see Kara’s ordeal in the zone come to an end, we really liked the cutaway to Midvale. As we mentioned last week, Izabela Vidovic and Olivia Nikkanen are really good as Kara and Alex, and moving Nia (Nicole Maines) and Brainy (Jesse Rath) to the lead positions was just inspired. This week, though, they really proved the actors and characters could lead a series of their own. So, CW, howsabout Nia and Brainy setting up shop in a new town and continuing on? If that’s unworkable, can we please see them move to Legends of Tomorrow?

Meanwhile, it sure feels like Kenny (Peter Sudarso) is getting amped up for a big return in the final thirteen episodes, doesn’t he? Maybe the slight alterations to the timeline will see him waiting for Kara when she returns from the Zone and only Nia and Brainy aware that he isn’t supposed to be there. Of course, for it to all work, the part would need to be recast again, wouldn’t it? Nevertheless, Kara’s tearful talk with him in the auditorium sure felt like it was laying the groundwork for him to make some appearance in the present — especially considering Kenny used to be dead in the old Multiverse. Did he and Kara really never reconnect over all those years?

Supergirl airs Tuesdays on The CW.
