What if Jodo Wrote Lobo? ‘Showman Killer’ Reviewed

by Tito W. James

Showman Killer is a twisted comedy that makes full use of Jodorowsky’s SciFi mythology. Not for the faint of heart and will definitely leave some jaws on the floor.

Showman Killer by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Nicolas Fructus is about a heartless assassin, genetically engineered by an insane scientist to be devoid of any emotion, and trained to kill. Showman is driven only by greed and bloodlust until he’s made responsible for a mysterious child that the whole universe is after.

Cosmic assassins aren’t exactly new territory for Jodorowsky. In this regard, Showman Killer almost feels like a Metabarons reboot. While there are some spiritual and esoteric elements thrown in, Showman Killer is undeniably a farce. I would only recommend it if you can handle Jodorowsky’s darker-than-black comedy as seen in his works like Anibal 5.

Personally, I had a blast with the series. It’s a world of shape-shifting assassins, ruthless religious satire, biological spaceships, and a talking seal in clown make-up. If you ever wanted to see Jodorowsky’s version of a hyper-violent mercenary like Deadpool or Lobo, then read Showman Killer. Your body and mind will never be ready.

All three volumes of Showman Killer are available now from Titan Comics.
