After a pair of countdowns leading into the actual reveal, EA and DICE Studios have revealed the latest game in the Battlefield franchise. Titled Battlefield 2042, the game takes place in the near future, but features the same massive fields; promising hundreds of players all fighting against one another. Here’s the publisher’s description of what’s to come:
Battlefield 2042 is a first-person shooter that marks the return to the iconic all-out warfare of the franchise. Adapt and overcome in a near-future world transformed by disorder. Squad up and bring a cutting-edge arsenal into dynamically-changing battlegrounds supporting 128 players, unprecedented scale, and epic destruction.
The trailer is more cinematic focused, with the promise of a gameplay reveal on June 13th. What is known is that this Battlefield won’t have a campaign mode, instead focusing on the multi-player. What’s also been revealed is the game won’t have a Battle Royale mode at launch. Despite this, Battlefield 2042 will be another $70 game for next-gen consoles. The last-gen versions will remain at $60, however they will also only allow up to 64 players.
Battlefield 2042 will release on PlayStation and Xbox consoles and PC October 22nd.
