Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One is just a few days from release, but as preview clips and images continue to roll out, we appreciate the serendipity of certain things. Take this picture of Batman (Jensen Ackles) and Catwoman (Naya Rivera) getting quite close, for instance:
Of course, it takes on a greater significance thanks to the week’s Twitter discourse about Batman’s willingness to pleasure her in Batman-related media intended for older audiences. It may have stemmed from some overly cautious brand managers worrying about a joke on the Harley Quinn animated series, but it sparked a lively debate about the character and inspired a least a few great memes from the quote “Heroes don’t do that.”
But we know they do.
Meanwhile, this next photo offers a glimpse at the relationship between Batman and Harvey Dent (Josh Duhamel). The Holiday Murders featured in The Long Halloween lead to their uneasy alliance, but it may even lead to a friendship before Harvey’s inevitable fall. Oh, and that coin definitely feels significant.
Our final photo features the hand of the first victim in the Holiday Murders, mobster Johnny Vitti. As it happens, the story — as originally realized in comic book form by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale — told the story of Gotham’s transition from a city of organized crime to a haven for costumed and theatrical arch-villains like the Joker and, ultimately, Two-Face. Vitti’s death not only sparks off the investigation into the Holiday Murders, but the change into the Gotham City we all know and love.
Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One debuts on disc and digital platforms June 22nd.
