‘Titans’ Season 3 Teaser Introduces A Key Laugh And A Certain Crowbar

by Erik Amaya

The third season of former DC Universe original Titans will see Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) moving the team back to Gotham City. But as this teaser for the upcoming season — due to begin August 12th on HBO Max — reveals, Gotham produces a different sort of criminal. And considering the prominent use of a particular laugh and the seconds spent hovering over a crowbar, we’re inclined to be believe Jason Todd (Curran Walters) will a get particularly close look at one of those Gotham rogues.

It’s no secret, of course, that Jason is about to become the Red Hood. Titans publicity has not be shy about that. But considering the way he split from the team last season, we assumed his breaking bad moment would not include being savagely beaten by the Joker. Then again, this is Titans and the show loves to be edgy and extra, so why not depict one of the most horrific events in DC Comics history? Now that the crowbar to Jason’s face is in play, we also expect it will be a little more graphic than the scene Jim Aparo drew in A Death in the Family.

But presuming Superboy Prime will not appear in the series, we’re guessing Jason’s injuries will not be fatal; just serious enough to inspire a costume change.

The third season will also see Dick immediately running into old flame Barbara Gordon (Savannah Welch). Meanwhile, Blackfire (Damaris Lewis) comes to Earth to deal with her sister, Kory (Anna Diop), and — we presume — Raven (Teagan Croft) will learn more about her self while assisting in the resurrection of Donna Troy (Conor Leslie). Oh, and the Scarecrow (Vincent Kartheiser) turns his attention to Dick and the team.

Come to think of it, maybe the scene of Jason seen in the tease in just a fear toxin phantasm …

Although we now credit the program as a HBO Max original, it began its life on the now-defunct DC Universe streaming service. The first two seasons streamed there, but it seems someone within the AT&T organization liked it enough to import it to their flagship service. Of course, with Discovery buying WarnerMedia from the telecom, it remains to be seen how much of a future Titans will have.
