Writer Matthew Robinson Reportedly Joins ‘Rogue Squadron’

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has seemingly found its writer.

According to The Hollywood ReporterThe Invention of Lying screenwriter Matthew Robinson will write the upcoming Star Wars film for director Patty Jenkins.

The film, announced last December at Disney’s marathon Investor Day presentation, will see Jenkins attempt to make what she calls “the greatest fighter pilot movie ever made.” It will, presumably, focus on the famed X-Wing fighter squadron formerly led by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Wedge Antilles (Denis Lawson) during the Galactic Civil War. It is unclear, however, when the film will take place. We hope it is set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker so the universe continues to expand past the events of the Skywalker Saga. Indeed, this seems to be one of Lucasfilm’s aims alongside continuing the corner of the universe spearheaded by Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni.

The project is said to be ramping up for an early 2022 production schedule to meet its already announced December 22nd, 2023 release.
