Something Is Killing The Children is the next comic book to get a Netflix series adaptation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Doctor Sleep‘s Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan will co-write the pilot and executive produce the eventual series (should it get picked up) via there Intrepid Pictures banner. The plot, based on the Boom! Studios comic book by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera, centers on a town plagued by monsters with a hankering children, one teen survivor no one believes, and Erica Slaughter — a woman who talks to her stuffed animal and has a keen interest in mowing down the monsters.
Boom!’s Stephen Christy, Ross Richie, and Mark Ambrose will serve as executive producers with Tynion and Dell’Edera in co-executive producer roles alongside Intrepid’s Adam Fasullo.
THR notes that because this is in extremely earlier development, it is always possible it will fall by the wayside. But if things do go smoothly, it will still take a few years for the program to hit the service.
And even then, it might be in their interest to run with the title’s original closed-loop plan. Netflix cancels a lot of programs after one year and Something Is Killing The Children‘s origins as a miniseries allows it more of a definite ending than, say, Jupiter’s Legacy or Cursed. Both programs were scuttled by the service in the last six weeks.
