Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is an adult animated film sequel to Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. When humanity is threatened by the evil forces of Shao Kahn, Raiden and the defenders of Earthrealm must travel to Outworld in order to compete in a final Mortal Kombat which will determine the fate of the realms.
During the film’s Comic-Con@Home 2021 panel, the cast and crew of Battle of the Realms discussed this new film and its focus on Liu Kang. The panelists included Joel McHale (Johnny Cage), Jordan Rodrigues (Liu Kang), Dave B. Mitchell (Raiden), screenwriter Jeremy Adams, producer Rick Morales and game co-creator Ed Boon (NetherRealm Studios), who serves the film’s as the creative consultant.
The whole creative team expressed how they were fans of the video games and that the love and respect for it is poured into the film. Much like Scorpion’s Revenge, Battle of the Realms revels in MK‘s signature blood and gore without pulling any punches. Adams said even he was shocked by the level of animated violence — and he wrote the fight scenes! Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the franchise Mortal Kombat Legends joins the realm of video game adaptations done right.
