Star Wars Goes Anime In ‘Star Wars Visions’ Trailer

by Erik Amaya

The upcoming Star Wars Visions sees seven Japanese animations studios putting their own spin on the Star Wars galaxy. And as you can see from the trailer below, the results are quite startling.

In an interesting development, the series will feature the option to watch each episode in English — with actors like Lucy Liu and Temuera Morrison (who reprises Boba Fett yet again) — or in Japanese with many veteran voice actors lending their talents to the project. That said, the English dub also features a number of Asian actors like Karen Fukuhara, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Simu Liu, Henry Golding, Jamie Chung, George Takei, and the legendary James Hong. David Harbour, Jordan Fisher, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt also voice characters.

The stories themselves appear to span the Star Wars timeline even as some of the shorts replace the film iconography with something decidedly more Japanese. But that’s part of the reason to do this, isn’t it? We look forward to seeing what sorts of stories can be told in this format.

Star Wars Visions debuts September 22nd on Disney+.
