Stephen Mooney To Write Dynamite’s New ‘Sheena: Queen Of The Jungle’
by Erik Amaya
Sheena: Queen of the Jungle is coming back for a new series with writer Stephen Mooney taking her on a new adventure. Is Sheena still queen in an urban jungle? Mooney, artist Jethro Morales, and colorist Dinei Ribero set out to answer that question this November.
“It’s exciting getting to play with these kinds of toys and accepting that challenge of adding something new and worthy to the established mythos,” Mooney said in a statement. “The fact that Sheena was a bit of a trailblazer is fantastic, but that in itself does not a good story make. It’s up to us newbies to add something perhaps a little more contemporary, without robbing Sheena of any of the elements that already made her great”
The plot sees Sheena drafted by a conglomerate eager to rehabilitate its image with a haven for endangered flora and fauna in a state-of-the-art combination research center and destination resort called the Bio-Dome. But just before its grand opening, all communication with staff and early visitors ceases. Meanwhile, Sheena faces obstacles both new and old inside and outside of the Bio-Dome — including deceit, manipulation, and a deadly creature like nothing she has ever encountered. And what she learns may change understanding of the world and her place in it.
The first issue will be supported with variant covers by Lucio Parrillo, Rose Besch, Arthur Suydam, Joseph Michael Linsner, Carla Cohen, Stephen Mooney, Lesley “Leirix” Li, and a cosplay by Rachel Hollon.
Sheena: Queen of the Jungle #1 is due out this November.
