John And Bishop Join Forces In A Preview Of Next Week’s ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’

Bishop (Raffi Barsoumian) knows the Legends of Tomorrow quite well. He orchestrated a plan to talk to Constantine (Matt Ryan) just as the worst of the DTs made him take some Scarlet Lady. Now, as seen in this preview for next week’s episode, the two have formed an alliance. The situation somehow lands Astra (Oliva Swann) and Spooner (Lisseth Chavez) in 1920s Texas, where she somehow runs into her mother.
As for this week, we’re sorry to see John fail again. Yeah, this dark side could be a separate entity co-opting John’s addiction to magic, but it is more dramatically satisfying for John to really be the poor sod behind his troubles. In fact, Garth Ennis might’ve written a similar story for John back in the day, but it’s been a long time since we read 1990s Hellblazer. We just hope Zari 2.0 (Tala Ashe) doesn’t get burned as John does whatever he does in the next few episodes. She doesn’t deserve the hurt which often comes to John’s significant others.
Also, while Legends does a good job redeeming villains — just look at Astra — we’re not so certain Bishop could ever find a place on the Waverider. Granted, it sure doesn’t feel like the show wants to keep him. Astra’s dramatic turn in the sorority rush week episode last year made her more endearing while last night’s episode made Bishop even more of an antagonist.
That said, it will be interesting to see how John and Bishop’s story wrap up.
