Betty Interrogates The Chain-Saw-Wielding Trucker On Next Week’s ‘Riverdale’

by Rachel Bellwoar

Whether or not the guy Betty (Lili Reinhart) has chained up is responsible for every murder that’s taken place on the Lonely Highway, he (Thomas Nicholson) did come after her with a chain saw, so he has murderous predilections. That doesn’t mean she’s in the clear, though, for her rogue interrogation in next week’s preview:

After all, it’s not like she can claim ignorance anymore when it comes to impersonating an FBI officer. That ship sailed with Glen (Greyston Holt), but while she has gone through a lot to explain her lack of faith in the law, the bigger mystery may be why Tabitha (Erin Westbrook) keeps getting roped into these messes. First it was Jughead (Cole Sprouse). Now it’s Betty. Besides the fact that in real life Betty would’ve never had cell reception to call when she needed help, what did Tabitha think she’d be able to do, showing up in a sports car by herself? Where did Betty’s mom (Mädchen Amick) go (and why was she so convinced, like everyone else, that this was a good plan), and is there any way this storyline ends without Dark Betty showing up?

Some other thoughts on this week’s episode:

  • Riverdale‘s been a little bit fickle when it comes to remembering Archie (KJ Apa) served in the military, but there’s no reason his PTSD nightmares couldn’t have carried their own storyline instead of being tied to a dog fighting ring.
  • For any fan who remembers Kevin’s time with the Farm, Kevin (Casey Cott) saying his break-up with Fangs (Drew Ray Tanner) was the worst thing he ever did might sound a little rich, but he has a new cult now (and boy, is Madelaine Petsch‘s voice well-suited to singing “Everything’s Alight’ from Jesus Christ Superstar).
  • At this point, it’s easier to feel sorry for Kevin’s students than it is to feel sorry for him, but Riverdale sure delivered with that surprise Moose (Cody Kearsley) reappearance,
  • Here the show just got through devoting a whole episode to Hiram (Mark Consuelos) and why messing with him would be ill-advised, and Reggie (Charles Melton) steals his investors from him? It’s no surprise Veronica (Camila Mendes) would jump at the chance because the stakes aren’t the same for her. She’ll always be Hiram’s daughter, but Reggie has no such safeguards.
