Cindy Calls In Her Threats In A Preview Of Next Week’s ‘Stargirl’
by Erik Amaya
Cindy (Meg DeLacy) has nearly all the players in her new Injustice Society. But before she finally strikes, she’ll complete the supervillain playbook by issuing a series of threats to Courtney (Brec Bassinger). Will Cindy disable the JSA and Courtney’s family? This preview for next week’s Stargirl suggests that is, indeed, her plan. Well, unless of course she realizes this is the supervillain playbook and her threats are just a diversion for her real goal: co-opting Mike Dugan (Trae Romano) into her guild of darkness.
This week’s episode, though, was the first slow hour of the season — and that considering all the ideas it needed to reintroduce, like the never-quite-there romance between Courtney and Cameron (Hunter Sansone). There are also scenes re-establishing the divorce of Beth’s (Anjelika Washington) parents, Yolanda’s (Yvette Monreal) guilt about killing Brainwave, Mike’s sense of isolation, and even Rick’s (Cameron Gellman) internal turmoil regarding Grundy.
Granted, most of it needed to be set up again as Eclipso quickly used all of those things against the JSA, but it seemed to prevent the episode’s most interesting idea, Eclipso infecting the school, from getting any focus. That said, the paint-blob version of The Thing we did see was cool. Also, the slight Sailor Moon vibe with the art teacher at the center of it felt like the sort of thing Stargirl should be doing more often. It just needs to find the right pace for all of these ideas.
Stargirl airs Tuesdays on The CW.
