‘Mirka Andolfo’s Red Sonja’ #1 Goes Back To The Presses For A Second Printing
by Erik Amaya
A second print run of Mirka Andolfo’s Red Sonja #1 is in the works.
Last week, Dynamite Entertainment announced it had sold out of its print run of the debut issue, which sees Andolfo, co-writer Luca Blengino, artist Giuseppe Cafaro, colorist Chiara Di Francia, letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and editor Nate Cosby taking Sonja in a new direction. At the time, the company was uncertain if it would do a second printing as it was “working closely with retailers and listening to fans to inform a follow up decision as necessary.” But on Thursday morning, the company announced it will go back to the presses for issue #1.
In the story, Sonja adopts Sitha, a young child with mysterious white tattoos, after her village is destroyed by the Three-Eyed Shezem. The pair set off on a journey across frigid snow plains and thick forests, where they face all manner of threats in their search for justice and answers. Can Sonja save the child’s life and figure out why the village was destroyed?
Due to the tight timeline and the available paper stock, the second printing will not feature a new cover, but will sport a blue logo treatment (above) to differentiate it from the first printing. The second run is also limited to 2,000 copies. The second printing of Mirka Andolfo’s Red Sonja #1 (Diamond code: JUL218026) will feature on Final Order Cutoff the weekend of September 13th alongside the second issue’s final orders. Both will release on October 6th, with issue #2 now adding variant covers featuring work from Tony Fleecs & Trish Forstner and Lesley “Leirix” Li.
