The saga of Hunter Rose is finally coming to the screens.
Deadline reports Netflix has ordered a series based on Matt Wagner‘s Grendel. Abubakr Ali will star as Hunter Rose, the assassin and crime boss whose ferocity inspires centuries of people to adopt the Grendel persona. “He has the charisma, style and vital edginess that I’ve been envisioning in the role for years,” Wagner said in a statement.
And though it would seem the 8-episode first season will adapt “Devil by the Deed,” the first Grendel tale, the rest of the cast list suggests some of the expansive Grendel world will be established as well. Beyond Ali’s Hunter Rose, the series will also feature Jaime Ray Newman as Jocasta Rose, Julian Black Antelope as Argent, Madeline Zima will Liz Sparks, Kevin Corrigan joins as Barry Palumbo, Emma Ho as Stacy Palumbo, Erik Palladino as Teddy Ciccone, Brittany Allen as Annabelle Wright, and Andy Mientus as Larry Stohler.
Supernatural veteran Andrew Dabb serves as showrunner while Dark Horse Entertainment will produce as part of its deal with Netflix. Wagner is also onboard as an executive producer with Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Chris Tongue.
Of course, it remains to be seen how quickly the series will arrive, an almost complete cast list suggests Grendel may debut sometime next year.
