Targaryens Plot With Fire And Blood In ‘House Of The Dragon’ Teaser
by Erik Amaya
There may yet be drama to be found in Westeros.
HBO Max released a teaser trailer for the upcoming House of the Dragon on Tuesday which gives viewers an idea of what to expect from the Game of Thrones prequel. Set nearly 200 years before GoT, it will dramatize the Dance of Dragons — a civil war within House Targaryen which amplified the decline of their dragons and began a diminishing of their own power. As the program begins, King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) names his daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) to succeed him on the Iron Throne, but various power players use this break of tradition to upend Westerosi politics.
Which, of course, leads to some fire and blood.
We have to admit we’re a little unsure of the program. At least at this point. Like many prequels, we wonder if the knowledge of House Targaryen’s ultimate fall will hamper the tension and drama within the Dance of Dragons. Weirder still, the Dance of Dragons was always the prequel series we wanted! And yet, this teaser offers few reasons to really get hyped about it. Of course, we’ll be happy for our doubts to be proven wrong once the program launches.
House of the Dragon comes to HBO and HBO Max next year.
