‘Riverdale’ Moves To Tuesdays Starting In November

Even with cable and streaming services releasing new content year-round, the idea of the Fall TV season has never been abandoned. While that’s still true to a point this year, some shows like Riverdale are facing uncharted waters in terms of when fans can expect new episodes. While that makes sense, and the safety of the cast and crew should always come first, it’s been unclear until now what Riverdale‘s filming disruptions would mean for season six. Usually, Riverdale has its season premiere in the Fall, not its season finale, so would new episodes have to wait until the spring, or would the show continue having a summer schedule?
Last night’s promo offered some answers, as well as the news that Riverdale‘s moving to a new night. Starting November 16th, the show will be airing on Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays for a “5 episode event” that will presumably answer last night’s cliffhanger [SPOILER]: did Archie (KJ Apa) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) survive the bomb Hiram (Mark Consuelos) set off in Archie’s house?
If it’s anything like the fire at Pop’s, which somehow left the kitchen, the Whyte Wyrm, and multiple booths intact, then they should be fine. But they are notably absent from the trailer, which features Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) going full Wicker Man with a maypole.
Now, as much as running a girls school seems like a better fit for Cheryl than running a mission, it’s still disappointing how quickly she’s willing to drop her parishioners. Then again, dropping things is what Riverdale‘s citizens do best. That and break the law, apparently, as possibly the most disappointing revelation to come from last night’s finale is that the show equates being an adult with violence. Tabitha (Erinn Westbrook) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) set the Lodge Ledger on fire. Toni (Vanessa Morgan) and Fangs (Drew Ray Tanner) torture a Ghoulie (never mind that Toni’s a guidance counselor or who’s watching the baby).
At least “Rip(?)” laid the groundwork for a potentially great spinoff. Who else would happily watch a series about Abigail Blossom (and was anyone else reminded of the flashbacks on The Vampire Diaries)?
Riverdale returns Tuesday, November 16th on The CW.
