January’s ‘Death Of Doctor Strange’ Finale Reveals A Killer And The Fate Of Magic
by Tony Thornley
Last week, Doctor Stephen Strange was murdered in his Sanctum Santorum. That horrifying crime is going to have massive consequences for the entire Marvel Universe, as we already know. And in January’s Death of Doctor Strange #5, not only will we learn the identity of the killer, but also discover what it means for the fate of magic in the Marvel Universe.

The opening issue, from Jed MacKay and Lee Garbett, had more than a few surprises. The finale promises more of those same thrills, as the horrifying Three Mothers and their master, the Peregrine Child, have the Marvel Universe in their mystical grip. Has Strange’s killer caused the destruction of the world or does Strange himself have a few tricks up his sleeve from beyond the grave?

“The Death of Doctor Strange will be reaching its conclusion at #5, but its end will be the beginning for a whole new set of stories on the magic side of the Marvel universe,” MacKay (newly exclusive to Marvel) said in a statement. “The ups and downs of its five-month run have been a treasure to work on, but the folks at Marvel have been filling my pockets with more exciting projects coming down the pike in the future, so stay tuned!”
In addition to the conclusion of the event mini series, be sure to also pick up Death of Doctor Strange: Bloodstone from Tini Howard and Ig Guera, featuring a tale of Marvel’s premier monster hunter stepping into the chaos caused by Strange’s death. As the solicitation for the one-shot reads: “Who better to defend Earth from magical invaders than monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone? Elsa is the best there is at what she does — tough, skilled and clever enough to handle any problem…except her brother, Cullen. The siblings will have to put their issues aside not only to protect Earth but also to welcome the latest addition to the Bloodstone clan: their long-lost sister! Her awesome set of powers and unique Blood gem have placed a target on her back, and the worst horrors from beyond this realm are on the hunt.”

January promises to be a hell of a month for fans of Marvel’s magic side, no matter what title you pick up. Be sure to grab both titles this coming January!
