Beating the odds is something Doom Patrol does quite well. And to prove it, the program has been renewed for a fourth season on HBO Max — as announced during DC FanDome on Saturday.
The program tells the tale of a group of odd-ball would be superheroes who, somehow, become better people by living in the mansion of the renegade scientist who made them all super-powered and functionally immortal. The premise shouldn’t work, and yet Doom Patrol charmed viewers on the now defunct DC Universe and on its new home at HBO Max with a delightful mix of strong performances, weird ideas, gruesome images, and a particular joie de vivre. Want proof? Just look at this trailer for the currently-running third season released during the program’s appearance at DC FanDome.
