Barry Assembles The Justice League In ‘The Flash’ Armageddon Trailer
by Erik Amaya
Although teased at the conclusion of “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the de-facto Arrowverse Justice League never really assembled in the time since The CW’s mega-crossover event. But that’s about to change if this preview for The Flash‘s five-part “Armageddon” story is to be believed.
When Despero (Tony Curran) threatens Barry’s (Grant Gustin) family, he’s forced to assemble heroes from other towns and times to take on the alien invader. The team includes Batwoman (Javicia Leslie), Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), Black Lightning (Cress Williams), Ryan Choi (Osric Chau), and Mia Queen (Katherine McNamara) in a tale which seems to mimic an Arrowverse crossover while staying completely contained within The Flash.
And if that’s what it takes for Earth-Prime to feel interconnected again, we’ll take it. In the wake of “Crisis,” the individual showrunners said they planned at least a year’s rest and a more contained crossover. The story concept that emerged was meant to bridge Batwoman and Superman & Lois, but this was abandoned as the COVID-19 outbreak made it impossible for the stars of one series to spend time on the set of another show. Consequently, all of the 2020-2021 Arroverse shows felt even more self-contained with Superman & Lois never mentioning Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) existence and Batwoman’s kryptonite problem never leading to a Smallville road trip. In lieu of that crossover, David Ramsey appeared on some of the shows as Arrow‘s John Diggle in a plot which suggested he received a Green Lantern ring in that program’s series finale, but choose not to wear it. Sadly, nothing came of this development and the Arrowverse shows went on as though he never visited.
But “Armageddon” will be different with Williams and Chyler Leigh dropping by following the conclusion of their own shows and McNamara once again appearing despite The CW passing on her proposed spinoff, Green Arrow and the Canaries. We definitely look forward to the five-part story when The Flash‘s eighth season begins November 16th.
