We never would believe Uncharted actually became a film, but Sony released a trailer on Thursday proving otherwise. Tom Holland stars as a young Nathan Drake. But in a time before that name is associated with treasure hunting, the mysterious Sully (Mark Wahlberg) enlists him for his first adventure. To some, Drake’s exploits will look familiar, but the studio is hoping new fans will help ignite a new feature film franchise.
Antonio Banderas also stars as the villain(?) with Tati Gabrielle and Sophia Ali rounding out the cast. We’ll be honest — Uncharted games have some great movie-worthy set pieces, but we always lose interest in the story after awhile. Add the usual adaptation woes and we wonder if this film will be in any way good. It is based on a video game, after all, and there’s yet to be a truly exceptional film to emerge from such a source. But perhaps this will be the film to utterly break the curse when it arrives on February 18, 2022.
