‘Doom Patrol’ Star Brendan Fraser Joins ‘Batgirl’ Feature

Doom Patrol‘s Brendan Fraser is putting away his Robotman face and making a stop in Gotham City.
Deadline reports the actor has joined the cast of HBO Max’s upcoming Batgirl feature. Their source suggests Fraser will play the villain Firefly opposite Leslie Grace‘s Barbara Gordon. The cast also includes J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon and Jacob Scipio in an undisclosed role.
The part extends Fraser’s DC Entertainment reach as he voices — and occasionally appears as — Doom Patrol‘s Cliff Steel (aka Robotman). But as each of the DC programs on HBO Max are self-contained in their own universe, it is unlikely Batgirl will make much hay about his resemblance to Cliff. Although, we imagine, Doom Patrol will do something with it.
Bad Boys for Life‘s Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct the picture from a script by Birds of Prey‘s Christina Hodson. Plot details are, of course, under wraps, but the film will presumably see Barbara taking on the cowl for the first time.
Batgirl is expected to debut on HBO Max in the not-too-distant future.
