AfterShock Comics/Seismic Press To Collect ‘The Lollipop Kids’

by Olly MacNamee

Father and son creators, Adam Glass and Aidan Glass are to have their five-issue series, The Lollipop Kids, collected by AfterShock Comics’ new imprint Seismic Press.

“When immigrants came to the new world they didn’t only bring their hopes and dreams, they also brought their MONSTERS. Years ago, early setters locked these monsters away in a secret prison deep in the woods of NEW AMSTERDAM so that they never would return to the Old World. Those woods have become CENTRAL PARK and now the monsters have escaped! NICK, 14, finds out that he is a “legacy” to a secret society that for the last 400 years has kept these monsters in check – he and a ragtag group of kids just like him have to put the monsters back before they get out of the park and destroy the city.

Created by Adam Glass (ROUGH RIDERS, THE NORMALS, Teen Titans) and Aidan Glass, with art by Diego Yapur (The Night Projectionist, Priest: Purgatory), THE LOLLIPOP KIDS is an epic re-imagining of the things that go bump in the night…”

Adam Glass speaks about the book some more, what he hopes readers will get from it and the inspirations behind the story:

“That each of us is but a small chapter in the story of our familial line. But within that chapter we can change our family forever. Also, most of us have no idea about our roots, but I promise you, almost all of us have a graphic novel in that story. And this is just one of them, put through a magical lens.

Lollipop Kids all started because Aidan, my son, has dyslexia, and instead of reading bedtime stories when he was little, we made our own up. Lollipop kids were one of them. And what YA readers will see and feel is this story is not only about them but also co-written by a fellow young adult.”

He also spoke about his experience of writing with his son on this YA book and why readers may want to pick up the book:

“For one, Aidan is a storyteller; he has that gift, which is fantastic to watch. The other is Lollipop Kids is an experience that will forever be frozen in time for me. Aidan was this little kid sitting beside me, pitching me ideas, etc. But now he’s a young man and towers over me. So, it’s a memory I’ll never forget.

Readers who like action and adventure will find themselves in love with our lead Nick’s journeys across New York, as he discovers more about his family’s name and the legacy that he has inherited.”

And Aidan even chipped in with some advise for other young creators:

“The best advice I can give is if you believe in something so much, then don’t let anyone stop you from making it a reality. When you have something that drives you, DO IT!”

So, there you have it. Look out for The Lollipop Kids, Wednesday 9th February, 2022.
