Peter Gets His Mission In New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Trailer
by Erik Amaya
While certain appearances are not confirmed in the new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter’s (Tom Holland) mission becomes clearer. As a result of the botched spell glimpsed in the previous trailer, villains from other realities begin to invade the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Peter must collect them and send them back, but along the way, he learns that Dr. Octopus (Alfred Molina), Green Goblin, and a few others, are always destined to die at the hands of Spider-Man. Will Peter embrace his own inevitable future and will MJ (Zendaya) face a certain, memorable fate?
In fact, the allusions to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are pretty striking as its poor performance and critical reaction led Peter to becoming a MCU character in the first place. More than an allusion, though, is Jaime Foxx reprising his ASM2 role as Electro. Granted, he sure looks more the part this time around.
Also, did you catch the other deadly foes of Spider-Man in the trailer? We spotted the Lizard, the Sandman, and, of course, the Green Goblin. Curiously, though, Venom (Tom Hardy) is not among them. Considering his destiny is not to die at Spider-Man’s hands, maybe his trip to the MCU will turn out to be very, very different.
Something absolutely missing from the trailer is the previous Spider-Men (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield) and Charlie Cox as Matt Murdoch. All three were said to appear in the trailer via rumors and supposed leaks last week which, as we can now see, proved to be false. Of course, the still could be in the film. Well, maybe … Marvel does doctor footage in trailers, after all.
Spider-Man: No Way Home opens December 17th.
