Kim Dwinell’s ‘Surfside Girls’ To Become AppleTV+ TV Series

by Erik Amaya

AppleTV+ continues to expand into more varied content.

As recently announced, the streaming platform has ordered a ten-episode adaptation of Kim Dwinell‘s Surfside Girls. The first graphic novel, published by Top Shelf, tells the story of Samantha and Jade, two teenage girls whose plans for a kick-back summer get upended when Sam swims into an underwater cave and, shortly thereafter, starts seeing ghosts and other strange creatures. It’s up to both Sam and Jade to solve the mystery before it threatens their seaside town.

The television series stars Miya Cech as Jade and Yaya Gosselin as Sam. Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s May Chan will serve as showrunner with Alex Diaz and Julie Sagalowsky Diaz signing on as writers and executive producers. Paul Stupin and Lydia Antonini will also serve as executive producers while America Young will direct and executive produce the first two episodes. Paul Davidson and Jeff Brustrom will serve as executive producers on behalf of IDW. As the art above suggests, the series will be aimed at younger and family audiences, one of Apple’s aims as it enters its third year as a streaming platform.

As with all recently announced projects, it’s unclear how soon the series will emerge, but considering the leads have already been cast, you can definitely expect this in the nearish future.
