Just when you thought the Arrowverse might be winding down, a potential new series may see the return of John Diggle (David Ramsey).

TVLine reports The CW is developing a series called Justice U. The proposed program, from Michael Narducci and Zoanne Clack, will see Diggle recruit “five young meta humans to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university.” He will also supervise their training — whether as an official member of university staff or not remains to be seen. Currently, the character is still a higher-up at ARGUS, even as he decides what to do with the Green Lantern ring he found during the Arrow finale.

School-set series are something of a rage at the moment with The CW’s own Legacies and an upcoming spinoff of The Boys set at a superhero academy. But beyond that trend, the emergence of the project is surprising as The CW is reportedly for sale. Even earlier this week, speculation around the topic suggested presumptive suitor Nexstar will convert programing entirely to low-cost Canadian imports and “political content” to capitalize on ad revenue in upcoming election cycles. That would leave the Arrowverse without a network home.

Then again, as Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski noted when asked how the sale might effect the potential series reboot, the network must continue to make decisions in good faith as if it will remain a partnership of WarnerMedia (or Warner Bros. Discovery) and CBSViacom. And even if the two companies agree to sell the network to Nexstar, such a purchase will not be complete until well into the 2023, which means current CW management must still program at least one more year of content before the new owners make any changes.

But, at least for this moment, the Arrowverse still has something of a future.
