Aaron Pierre To Join ‘Blade’
by Erik Amaya
Movement on Marvel Studios’ Blade continues.
Deadline reports Krypton vet Aaron Pierre has join the cast in an undisclosed role. The film will star Mahershala Ali as the hybrid human/vampire slayer. Director Bassam Tariq will take the helm with a script from Stacy Osei-Kuffour. The film will also feature Delroy Lindo, presumably as Jamal Afari, the man who raised Blade in the comics and taught him to be a vampire hunter. This is unconfirmed, of course, as is so much in the early days of a Marvel production.
But continued casting means development is moving at the expected pace. Although, as Ali was first announced as Blade in 2019, the development cycle feels longer than it did for, say, Eternals. As it happens, Ali made his first off-screen appearance in that film, mimicking a long standing Marvel Comics tradition of unseen characters interrupting the last page of an issue.
Blade is currently not scheduled for release, but Disney is holding a number of late 2023 and 2024 slots for untitled Marvel movies.
