Selwyn Seyfu Hinds Set To Adapt ‘The Sixth Gun’ For Universal

by Erik Amaya

The Sixth Gun is finally on its way to a TV adaptation.

Deadline reports Washington Black showrunner and Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child co-creator Selwyn Seyfu Hinds will adapt the comic book book by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt as part of his overall deal with Universal City Productions, a TV arm of NBCUniversal. The original Oni Press series told the tale of Becky Montcrief, the current owner of the sixth and most powerful guns in a set of supernatural weapons. In search of the other five, she must weigh whether or not to trust shadowy gunslinger Drake Sinclair and if she can use the weapons — and the dark power they represent — for the greater good. Debuting at Free Comic Book Day 2010, the series ran for fifty issues through 2016. It also produced a number of spinoffs and was nominated for several Eisner and Harvey Awards. It also entered TV development in 2011 and again in 2013 with a cast featuring Laura Ramsey, W. Earl Brown, Graham McTavish, among others.

Eric Gitter and Katie Zucker will executive produce this version of the project alongside Hinds.

The Sixth Gun is not the only comic book-based property on Hinds’s schedule. He is also involved in an adaptation of Ronald Wimberly‘s Prince of Cats, the long-gestating HBO Max series Strange Adventures, and a Gotham City thriller called Arkham.
