‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Teaser Offers Glimpses Of New Civilizations

by Erik Amaya

Paramount+ finally unveiled a teaser trailer for the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Wednesday. Of course, like many teasers, it’s light on details and heavy on atmosphere. But from what we can glean, the show picks up some time after Star Trek: Discovery‘s Season 2 finale. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) is home in Mojave, California — possibly contemplating retirement again — when the call of Starfleet gets him to shave his beard and put on his uniform.

Beyond the snow-covered Mojave, the teaser also offers glimpses of the strange new worlds Pike, First Officer Una (Rebecca Romijn), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), and the rest of the Enterprise crew will encounter. As previously reported, the show intends to go back to the original Star Trek‘s episodic format while also forwarding long-term character stories through the ship’s journeys. The change from the serial format is definitely welcome and fitting as Pike, Una, and Spock all debuted in the original 1965 Star Trek pilot. It promised a very similar show and we can’t wait to see how Strange New Worlds follows up on it.

Although, if we’re to trust the trailer, we can expect the show to feature a great orchestration of the original series theme.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds debuts May 5th on Paramount+.
