Although Ms. Marvel wrapped filming quite awhile ago, casting news still occurs.
Deadline reports Anjali Bhimani will appear in the series in a recurring, but undisclosed role (of course). The site also notes she previously appeared in Marvel Television’s Runways. There, she played Mita Nansari in two episodes. With all the Multiversal madness on display in the Marvel Cinematic Universe of late, it is tempting to suggest the character may resurface here, but that’s rather doubtful.
The series, directed by the team of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah and fellow directors Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon, centers on Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a Pakastani-American teenager who comes into possession of superpowers after an Marvel superhero incident occurs (well, in the comics, anyway). Now capable of changing her form and molecular density, she navigates the perilous worlds of superpowers and high school — all the while being keenly aware that her status makes her in outsider in more than one culture. The cast also includes Rish Shah, Mohan Kapur, Zenobia Shroff, Yasmeen Fletcher, Saagar Shaikh, Matt Lintz, and Lauren Marsden. Bisha K. Ali serves as head writer and showrunner.
Originally intended for a Winter 2021 launch, the series pushed its debut back to Summer 2022 following production delays on The Marvels, the Captain Marvel sequel featuring Vellani as Khan and WandaVision‘s Teyonah Parris as fellow Marvel Monica Rambeau. The series will likely start sometime in June.
